"Mid Ruby, dense raspberry and smoke nose with a herb de province overlay. Juicy, jammy palette with good lift. Nice length, luscious!". LIWC judges comments.

Kai Schubert and his partner Marion Deimling hail from Germany. They searched several countries looking for an ideal area to grow premium Pinot Noir and ended up in the Wairarapa. In October 1998 Kai acquired a small, established vineyard in Martinborough and about 40 hectare of bare land just north of Martinborough, at Dakins Road. On the land at Dakins Road the development with high density planting started in spring 1999 and now 12 hectares are under vines.

The 2008 'Block B' Pinot Noir is a tight, multilayered nose showing sweet red and black berry fruits with some chocolaty spicy aromas from the oak. In the mouth it has quite a density of elegant ripe cherry and berry fruit with citrusy spice, hints of coffee and showing very nice minerality. Good concentration and some silky-yet-firm structure of smooth but present tannins.

The Martinborough Wine Centre offers a 10% discount on case (12 bottle) purchases, cases can be mixed.
